Review: Against All Odds by Angie McKeon

Title: Against All Odds
Series: Against #1
Author: Angie McKeon
Release date: 1th April, 2016
Rating: 5 Stars!
Cliffhanger: No
HEA: Yes

5! Our ratings will be based on this 5 Star scale:

*****J’adore/Nous Adorons: World-changing, we could not put it down even if we dared to try. And, we might just read it again. We would recommend it to anyone.
****Liked it: It didn’t shatter our worlds. Something held us back from that amazing moment of complete obsession, but we definitely liked it a lot. We would recommend it to our friends.

For those who skim: A heartbreaking raw emotional story between two people who are struggling with redemption and acceptance.

Our lives shattered… Our hearts broken… Our souls torn to pieces…

He was my world, my whole life. My reason for breathing. I had a perfect marriage, a baby on the way, and I felt fulfilled—almost invincible.

Until the day life hit, leaving me broken, vulnerable, and alone.

She was my life. My ray of hope on the cloudiest day. With her, I thought I had the ultimate safety. A love that would never hurt or betray me. I gave her my heart, my body, and my soul.

Until she broke me, destroying every dream and illusion I had about life, love, and marriage.

In our grief, we made a mistake. A mistake I’m not sure we can come back from.

A spectacular story of raw emotions and the road to recovery.

This story wasn’t my usual read, but I was entranced by the first chapter. Mckeon’s words are filled with an honesty that touched the corners and crevices of my heart. I genuinely didn’t know where she would take me on this journey with Kylie, but it was amazing.

I found the search redemption and genuine repentance of the heroine to be a beautiful storyline. The heroine figured out exactly what she wanted and went for it. She worked on herself and didn’t lay the blame at anyone else’s feet.

I also didn’t know who she was going to end up with during the first part of the book which was kind of awesome and terrifying. I’m glad it ended the way it did, but I need to hear the other story now too!

This isn’t your usual romance, but that was exactly what I needed.

****Liked it: It didn’t shatter our worlds. Something held us back from that amazing moment of complete obsession, but we definitely liked it a lot. We would recommend it to our friends.

For those who skim: A story you won’t see coming

Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love is UNFORGIVABLE.

She wanted to forget her past.
He wanted to change the course of his future.
She was everything he never knew he needed.
He became her unexpected.
Everything was perfect.
Until …

They say to go into this book blind. So I did. I’m glad I did.
They say you won’t know which way is up. I didn’t.
Berry creates a fascinating world where every page has you waiting for the other shoe to drop, even when you start to get comfortable.
She’s a talented writer who told an “old” story and made it really new again.
They said there’s nothing new under the sun. They were wrong.
Berry told this story in a way that I haven’t ever seen done. It was intriguing and risky.
They said it paid off. They were right about that.

Review: Fly by Molly McLain

Title: Fly
Series: Velocity #1
Author: Molly McLain
Release date: 10th March, 2016
Rating: 4 Stars
Cliffhanger: Yes so be prepared!
HEA: Not Yettttttt

For those who skim: Let’s just say this is the beginning of some heart-wrenching feels between Colton and Taylor.

Meet Colton Wade, FMX rider…

I’m just a small town guy who caught a lucky break. Now I’m living the dream, on the brink of high-flying super-stardom. But something’s missing.

That something is Taylor.

She’s my best friend. The one who makes me want to push harder and higher. The one I fall back on when shit gets tough. The one I’d give it all up for.

I’d do anything to protect her. To make her dreams come true too.

But a single night changes everything.

And now the one she needs protection from…is me

Honestly, I enjoyed this book. I caught some feels too! I’m looking forward to more of their story in book 2! May can’t get here soon enough.

Colton is a super flawed hero. He loves Taylor, but doesn’t know how to love her the way she needs.

Taylor has hidden her feelings for Colton deep. I mean, they are supposedly best friends. One thing I love is that she has a deep sense of loyalty to those she loves.

At the end of the day, this is an intriguing start to what could be a really good story.

Review: Waking Olivia by Elizabeth O’Roark

Title: Waking Olivia
Series: Standalone
Author: Elizabeth O’Roarck
Release date: 12th March, 2016
Rating: 5 Stars!
Cliffhanger: Nope
HEA: YES YES

For those who skim: The love between Olivia and Will is one of those rare *sigh* love eyes kind of love that you just can’t escape.

“That girl isn’t just trouble of the not-a-team-player, not-a-reliable-runner variety. She’s trouble of the devious, manipulative, too-f***ing-hot-for-her-own good variety. She’s the kind of girl who causes trouble merely by existing, and then makes sure to cause more.
And the last thing I need right now is more trouble.”

A failing farm.
His father’s debt.
And a struggling college track team.
Will Langstrom has too many responsibilities, and the last thing he needs is Olivia Finnegan, a beautiful but troubled new transfer student.

A smart mouth.
A strong right hook.
And a secret that could destroy her.
Olivia is her own worst enemy, with a past she can’t seem to escape, and the last person she wants help from is a cocky track coach she can never seem to please.
Refusing to be pushed away, Will is determined to save her.
And determined to resist an attraction that could destroy them both.

Take a chance on this book.
For real.
I think, I just love Elizabeth O’roark’s writing. This is the second book I’ve read that she’s written. And, I loved it!
I loved it!
It was beautiful and angsty.
Olivia is the bad girl with a heart of gold. She said the things that only a good girl would dream of.
Will was honestly… Amazing. He just blew my mind. I loved him and his internal struggle. The way he loved Olivia was like magic.
Waking Olivia is an original and unique novel. I can’t remember the last time that a book hooked me the way this one did.
It’s not often that you love both the main characters so fiercely.

Review: Paper Princess by Erin Watt

Title: Paper Princess
Series: The Royals #1
Author: Erin Watt
Release date: 4th April, 2016
Rating: 5 Stars!
Cliffhanger: Yes!
HEA: No…..at least not yet

For those who skim: The tension between Ella and Reed will be sure to get you all hot and bothered.

From strip clubs and truck stops to southern coast mansions and prep schools, one girl tries to stay true to herself.

These Royals will ruin you…

Ella Harper is a survivor—a pragmatic optimist. She’s spent her whole life moving from town to town with her flighty mother, struggling to make ends meet and believing that someday she’ll climb out of the gutter. After her mother’s death, Ella is truly alone.

Until Callum Royal appears, plucking Ella out of poverty and tossing her into his posh mansion among his five sons who all hate her. Each Royal boy is more magnetic than the last, but none as captivating as Reed Royal, the boy who is determined to send her back to the slums she came from.

Reed doesn’t want her. He says she doesn’t belong with the Royals.

He might be right.

Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.

Erin Watt’s Paper Princess is YA genius. I am incredibly entrenched in my feelings about this book.

This series will be perfect for fans of Ali Carter, Tijan, and Meg Cabot.

Ella is so strong and quick witted. She’s sharp and smart. I love that “never let them see your weakness” vibe she had.

Reed. Reed is a complicated hero. I don’t think any of us truly know what’s going on with him just yet. But when we find out, it’s going to be AMAZING.

Welcome to the world of the rich and powerful. Nothing is what it seems.

The story is a great start to what will be a killer series. The writing is as brilliant as I’d hoped. I mean, how could I have really gone wrong with two of my favorite NA & contemporary romance authors teamed up.

Book two cannot come soon enough. It was all kinds of brilliant and intense.

Review: All That Jazz by Natasha Boyd

Title: All That Jazz
Series: The Butler Cove Series
Author: Natasha Boyd
Release date: 22th March, 2016
Rating: 4 Stars!
Cliffhanger: Nope
HEA: Absolutely

For those who skim: Jazz and Joey are too stubborn yet incredibly emotional individuals whose redemption story will be sure to overwhelm your heart.

There’s something totally inconvenient about falling for your bestfriend’s brother. Especially when he’s turned into a pompous, arrogant, albeit annoyingly sexy a-hole that you’d like to punch or kiss to death at any given moment.

After a stupid favor that blurred the lines from friends to lovers the summer she turned eighteen, Jazz Frazer accidentally lost her heart to Joey Butler. For three years they’ve pretended there’s nothing between them anymore. Jazz is finally ready to move on with the rest of her life. She’s determined that experiences and relationships will be fun, casual and easy. After all, she learned the hard way that men just don’t stick around anyway. But when her best friend gets herself into a relationship with a celebrity, Jazz has to do the one thing she never thought she’d do, call Joey and ask for help.

Repeatedly thrown together, Jazz tries everything she can to protect her heart and not fall back in love with Joey. But when Joey finally admits that Jazz is the one he’s always wanted, all bets are off.

Let’s start off by saying that I had insane major love for Eversea and Forever Jack would be putting it mildly, because the fangirl freak out was there, and it was definitely way intense. So to find out about All That Jazz, let’s just say my vocal chords were sacrificed.

All That Jazz is a fantastic blend of funny, sexy, witty, and HOT.

Jazz and Joey have a chemistry that is so obvious it makes you shake your tablet with frustration at their stubbornness. I might have yelled at them to just “DO IT ALREADY!”

Joey is pure sexy stubborn and egotistical yet soft and kind. (ie. basically perfection).
Jazz is an equally stubborn, unexpected, and full of life girl. She has so much tragedy hidden away in the recesses of her soul that it causes you to feel that special kind of hurt in your heart. It is through each other that they each manage to maneuver through their challenges in life without even realizing it. Natasha Boyd does a phenomenal job of bringing together two characters that seem to consistently butt heads while simultaneously harboring hardcore secret crushes.

This book can be read as a standalone although I obviously recommend reading the first two because well, there doesn’t really seem to be a reason not to!

Review: Hardball by CD Reiss

Title: Hardball
Series: Standalone
Author: CD Reiss
Release date: 29th March, 2016
Rating: 3.5 Stars
Cliffhanger: No
HEA: Yes

For those who skim: A sexy story with a surprising hero and a heroine with a heart of gold.

Perfect ass.

Perfect arms.

Perfect swagger.

They call Dash Wallace the Diamond King.

He’s the hottest commodity in baseball and in the bedroom.

When he runs the bases, every woman’s eyes are glued to his stunning body and a smile that puts the night lights to shame.

I’m no queen. I’m a regular girl with a regular job. I just watch him on TV and from the bleachers, season after season.

Girls like me grab a guy like that one in a million times.

My number just came up, and he is as spectacular in bed as he is on the field.

But there’s not a woman in the world who can distract Dash Wallace from the game. Not for a moment. Not even me.

Until the night I do. And everything changes.

Let me start off by saying that there isn’t anything wrong about this book.
Reiss created a journey that showed the power of mind over matter while showing that sometimes our brains work differently which makes us exquisite.
I love a good baseball book.
I love books based in LA written by someone who clearly knows a thing about what it’s actually like to live here, from the school system to the traffic patterns.
I like stories about under appreciated women and teachers.
I was just underwhelmed.
I truly enjoyed the hero and the way that Reiss explained his personality and struggles. He was your gloriously imperfect Reiss hero.
I liked the heroine. She was beautiful with a heart of gold.

I, however, didn’t get swept away in their romance the way I’d hoped to.

Review: Roots and Wings by M. Mabie

Title: Roots and Wings
Series: City Limits #1
Author: M. Madie
Release date: 27th March, 2016
Rating: 5 Stars
Cliffhanger: Nada
HEA: Yep

For those who skim: Roots and Wings is a sweet down to earth love story that goes down smooth leaving you with a smile.

Welcome to Wynne, population 3,401.

No billionaires. No professional athletes. No celebrities.

In this small town, current events are pondered in mirrors at the local salon or around crowded tables at the diner, and there’s a new couple to gossip about. A rough and tumble woman who works in her dad’s garage, not yet ready to spread her wings, shows the new guy in town what it’s like to finally have roots.

It’s your run-of-the-mill, sexy, Astro van driving dentist meets smart-ass, bass fishing tomboy in a story of real-life romance.

Low on drama. High on love.

Pull up a chair and stay a while.

In case you were wondering, this book is the spunkiest, sweetest, swooniest, most down to earth read that I have read in ages.

Mabie creates a rough around the edges heroine who won’t grate on your nerves. In fact, she will make you smile and wish she were your friend.

Vaughn is every woman’s dream man. But he doesn’t feel fake or too good to be true. He just feels polished and perfect for our heroine.

Chalk full of quick one liners and too true statements about life in a small town, Mabie told a story of an authentic love that kept me smiling all the way through.

Ps. I can’t wait to hear more about this small town!

Review: Heartbreaker by Melody Grace

Title: Heartbreaker
Series: Standalone
Author: Melody Grace
Release date: 26th March, 2016
Rating: 4.5 Stars!
Cliffhanger: Nope
HEA: YES YES YES

For those who skim: Eva and Finn are a couple that will take you through a story of second chances and hot sexy feels.

They say that time heals a broken heart, but you try moving on when your ex is the most famous man on the planet.

Every time I walk down the street, there’s a billboard plastered with his gorgeous face: Finn McKay. Now he’s a drop-dead sexy rock star, but when I first knew him, he was just the boy from the wrong side of the tracks – and the first guy I ever loved. He broke my heart into a hundred pieces when he skipped town without saying goodbye – but now he’s back.

And he wants me.

I’m determined not to make the same mistakes twice, but the chemistry with Finn was always way too hot to ignore. He was the guy who had me sneaking out my bedroom window for just one more kiss, and breaking curfew parked by the riverbanks, steaming up his windows in the backseat of his car. The past five years have been good to him, real good, and between his dirty mind and that ‘I know how to make you scream’ smile, he’s breaking through my defenses all over again.

Maybe one last wild fling for old time’s sake is what I need to finally move on. But what happens when Finn wants more than my body?

This time he wants everything

This was my first read by Melody Grace and I was delightfully surprised. Heartbreaker is an emotional (emphasis on emotional) story of two loves who have been torn apart by youth and inexperience only to be thrown back together five years later.

Eva is a beautiful spunky real estate agent who put her life and dreams on hold to help her little sister care for her unexpected baby. She tries to distance herself from her haunted past that makes her stick resolutely to her home town and what is safe. But Finn has other plans for her. Now a major rockstar and heartthrob to fans everywhere, he turns Eva’s world upside down at his sudden reappearance and will not rest until he has her heart.

Full of drama, plenty of laughs, and definitely feels, Grace puts together a gentle yet whirlwind love story that will keep you turning the page long after the oil burns out on your metaphorical reading lamp. A definite 4.5 stars to an incredible read! -S
